GRANDMA’S COOKIES

GRANDMA’S COOKIES

A tradition that is always alive,: to stay together with my family and cook: adults and children knead, shape cookies and sweets to share at Christmas. In the kitchen, the atmosphere is warm and we have the occasion to meet each other, to listen to music, to sing Christmas songs, to talk and stay in silence and get in touch with the real Christmas atmosphere. Today I share with you a traditional family recipe: black and white cookies that I have slightly revised, using a type “1” flour, ghee instead of butter and brown cane sugar. I wish you to be able to spend happy holidays and to feel the beauty that is behind the simplest gestures and the most authentic encounters. Merry Christmas.

NAAN (INDIAN BREAD)

NAAN (INDIAN BREAD)

Another recipe remembering India: naan, a very simple dough, rolled out like piadina, but baked enriched with sesame seeds. Finally seasoned with ghee (http://www.gustovegetariano.com/en/clarified-butter-ghee/). I find naan a very nice alternative to bread. Easy and fast to prepare, can be consumed warm as an appetizer or together with legumes and vegetables.

VEGAN STRAWBERRIES PANCAKES

I’ve met pancakes for the first time during a study holiday in England, many years ago ☺ Since then they have become a very special way to start a day.

Pancakes represent in our family a really “Special” breakfast. Generally, I prepare them with my children, on Sunday mornings, when there’s no school and the awakening is more gradual …. This is a vegan version, accompanied by the first strawberries of the season and some mint leaves. I will certainly publish many other variations … Meanwhile try this and tell me if you like 😉

SAGE TEMPURA

SAGE TEMPURA

When I was a little girl, my family and I used to have sunday lunch at my grandmom’s house. She often prepared a batter to fry some vegetables. It was a really tasty appetizer: usually carrots and zucchini, cut into small sticks. I loved them!

Today I’ve found in my garden some beautiful sage leaves, and I’m going to prepare a nice tempura to serve before a special lunch.

FOCACCIA WITH EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

FOCACCIA WITH EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

Many years ago, my husband and I, went in a very nice restaurant, where we ate divinely. But the most beautyful memory of that night is about the hospitality: when we arrived, the owner’s wife came to us with a bright smile and served us some grissini, a warm focaccia and a glass of white wine, in front of a fireplace. We stay there for about 10 minutes, talking with other guests. It was a great start, followed by an unforgettable dinner. That way of reciving, touched my heart. From that day, when I have guests for dinner, I try always to create that magic moment to recive with care, people who are joining me for dinner.   These focaccias are really perfect for a simply wellcome start: you can cook them before and keep warm till the right moment to serve with a glass of wine.
